This earthquake has hit the region Leh in Jammu & Kashmir, India on Friday evening local time. Residents of Leh and surrounding villages rushed out of their houses in panic when the quake hit. Cracks formed in several houses in nearby villages, according to preliminary reports from local sources. No detailed damage assessment is available yet. Due to the shallow depth of the quake, high intensities were felt in the sparsely populated epicentral region. Moderate shaking hit the town Leh about 70 km west of the epicenter.
