Using the #sentinel-2 surface displacement results of the #Turkey #earthquake #deprem
— Andreas Schäfer (@DrAndreasS) February 11, 2023
from which we already new the maximum displacement.
E-W: +/-3m
N-S: +/-5m
Total visible rupture length can now be estimate to about:

We are still tracking at around the same level as #Sichuan for the #TurkeySyriaEarthquake death toll, meaning that unfortunately 75-90,000 deaths are likely from this event.

Our earthquake loss estimation model still has a slightly more optimistic median = 52,355 (23k-106k) pic.twitter.com/PvebLEPTth

Four days since the #Earthquakes occurred in #Turkey & #Syria.

The death toll stands at 21,500 currently! (orange line)
2008 #Sichuan M7.9 #Earthquake in #China killed 88,000 people (69.2k deaths/18.8k missing).
Four days after Sichuan there was the SAME death toll! (blue line) pic.twitter.com/B9Zmidru48

Horizontal offset from the M7.7 #earthquake in the East Anatolian Fault Zone, #Turkey #Syria, using optical correlation with Copernicus #Sentinel2 satellite imagery. At least 250km of 1-5m displacement along the main EAFZ trace. Northern images are still obscured by snow. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/1JVD1G4R3T

clearly visible fault rupture from the #Turkey #earthquake #deprem near #Nurdagi
— Andreas Schäfer (@DrAndreasS) February 9, 2023
Should be about 3-4m of horizontal displacement

08.02.2023: Terrible numbers in the latest run of the Risklayer CATDAT #Earthquake Model for #Turkey & #Syria quakes:
— Risklayer (@risklayer) February 8, 2023
45,330 median fatalities (Range: 16,560 to 83,470).
(TUR: 34.5k, SYR: 10.8k)

update on #earthquake #afterhock|s
— Andreas Schäfer (@DrAndreasS) February 7, 2023
So far, we observed more than 230 aftershocks >M4 from 2 overlapping sequences of the 2 mainshocks (7.8, 7.5).
From those observations, we expect on average 25 M4+ and potentially another M6+ within the next day. #Turkey pic.twitter.com/j5Njj1ifFX

Risklayer CATDAT #Earthquake Model Update for #Turkey and #Syria:
— Risklayer (@risklayer) February 7, 2023
34,520 median fatalities (Range: 11,800 to 67,010).
Changed intensities in the south with damage data + more aftershock activity to the N and S included in this version due to the number of damaging quakes.

DUAL #Earthquake ESTIMATE (#Turkey-#Syria) Mw7.7 + Mw7.5 and aftershocks: Risklayer CATDAT model using adjusted shakemaps + previous damage.
— Risklayer (@risklayer) February 6, 2023
Fatalities: 20180 median (Range: 5,200 - 48,500)
Ec. Damage: ca. $20bn.
Much uncertainty due to occupancy, previous damage + trapped ppl. https://t.co/GmUUAnn5yB

A huge amount of aftershocks are still occurring of course as usual after such a large magnitude earthquake. These will continue for days, months & years making rescue difficult.
— Risklayer (@risklayer) February 6, 2023
Many of these have been shallow in depth so far, and have caused significantly more damage & deaths.
